Green packaging, the new and friendly with nature

The plastic is widely used in agriculture either in the mooring of structures, greenhouses and mulch, among other multiple uses. Once its useful life is completed, it is collected and / or disposed of, often ending up in a landfill where, depending on the thickness, it can take 10 years to degrade.

Chile imports a large percentage of plastic, a product that is used in part to produce packaging for export. Have a product friendly to the environment under the concept of green packaging is what Plastic Vegetable offers, a company that is dedicated to the development of friendly packaging with nature.

The company offers 100% starch plastic that is obtained from the fermentation of cellulose, producing lactic acid that is then polymerized, achieving plastic. This is biodegradable on land and water, and has the Belgian certification of the OK Compost raw material accepted internationally.

"Our plastic has demonstrated its ability to be compostable in accordance with international standards", stand out

From the company explain that while the development of packaging or temporary packaging is essential for the transport of food or merchandise, conventional packaging contaminates "So we offer solutions according to the new market and with a sustainable contribution".

"In general you can do everything you can do with a plastic"He said.

He tells us that some of the products are made in Chile, while others bring them from abroad

"The ideas in the short term is, with a sufficient volume for the already established machines and customers, to manufacture and consolidate the products here in Chile", Dijo.

But what are the advantages of these products? According to Alfaro, these allow us to think about a long-term, sustainable strategy that allows us to show the world "That one is doing things according to European standards".

"If a company wants to enter a market where they demand or have more points sustainability, operate or have in their value chain this type of products plus other things, such as solar panels, allows you to enter other types of supermarkets ", Agregó.

But, why use vegetable plastic? Fundamentally because it is an ecological product.

"An ecological product is one that has been produced with natural elements and avoids any type of alteration, respecting the natural system or ecosystem where it is developed", indicate from the company, adding that "The population is increasingly sensitive to the environment and the trend of purchases of organic products is increasing".

Roxana Silva, product manager of the Agro line commented to Portalfruticola.com that "We hope that sustainability is an item to determine the purchase of packaging products, not only thinking about the natural benefits that starch gives to products, such as the innocuousness demanded by international standards for export, but also the innovation that this represents in the caption ".
