AGAP on Agrofest 2025: "We seek to reposition Peruvian agriculture as the engine of the country's sustainable development."
Lima, April 29, 2025.- Through Agrofest 2025 –the fourth edition of the most important event of modern agriculture in Peru–, the aim is to reposition national agriculture as the engine of sustainable development of the country, stated the president of the Association of Agricultural Producers Guilds of Peru (AGAP), gabriel amaro.
The business leader indicated that this objective is extremely vital considering that, according to various specialists, Peru's GDP will grow less than 3% in 2025, well below the 4% projected by the government, due to the global trade war caused by the imposition of tariffs by the United States.
"This serious situation reflects real challenges that we must face together, with responsibility and proposals, but urgently. Why? Because the employment and well-being of Peruvians are at stake. Less than 5% does not generate enough employment, increasing unemployment, poverty, and informality," he stated during the launch of Agrofest 2025.
Added to this is another factor: a complex domestic environment, which "requires working to build regulations that promote private investment, formalization, and the expansion of sectors," such as agriculture. Gabriel Amaro noted that, in this context, Agrofest is consolidating itself as a space for integration and development that connects Peru to the world.
“At AGAP, we reaffirm our commitment to strengthening Peruvian agriculture through Agrofest 2025, a space for meeting, knowledge, new trends, proposals, challenges, innovation, networking, and business roundtables that will bring together producers, entrepreneurs, small producers, agricultural exporters, associations, unions, universities, suppliers of goods and services, and authorities from international organizations,” he stated.
In turn, the Minister of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Angel ManeroHe considered the event to be vital for small businesses, allowing them to better showcase themselves to the world and connect with the modern production chain. "Small businesses and producers sometimes don't have enough money to attend large international fairs. So, this event allows us to hold a major world fair in Peru, lowering costs for them. That's why we're celebrating this opportunity."
The head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock added that Agrofest 2025 is part of the process aimed at generating interconnections between large-scale and small-scale agriculture, so that the latter has the tools to professionalize.
Launch of the Agrofest
On Tuesday, April 29, AGAP launched Agrofest 2025 at an event held at the headquarters of Promperú, in San Isidro. In addition to Amaro and the head of Midagri, the event also included the president of Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD), Federico Tong Hurtado, and Edal Luján Olivares, director of Export Promotion (e) of Promperú.
The 2025 edition of Agrofest will feature the Peruvian Agricultural Congress, the International Agricultural University Congress (CIUA), the fourth Summit of Agrarian Public Policies, the Great Market, and the major national and international business roundtable, which is expected to host more than 165 business meetings. In addition, the AGAP Sustainability Award will be presented, recognizing organizations and companies that are committed to and excel in three areas: social inclusion, technological innovation, and environmental stewardship.
The general event will focus on four major themes: agricultural innovation and technology, market trends and business opportunities, sustainability and social development, and public policies for the development and knowledge of the sector and the country, to be shared across the entire value chain, from small-scale farmers to large corporations.
"With the support of our strategic allies and the joint efforts of the public and private sectors, Agrofest reaffirms its role as a platform for integration, projection, and development for Peruvian agriculture. Agrofest is not just an agricultural event; it's a platform for action, proposals, and networking. A commitment to a more competitive, modern, and sustainable agriculture, an agriculture that competes globally as the best in the world and that supplies the domestic market with the best of its products," Amaro emphasized.
Agrofest 2025 will take place from June 11 to 14 at La Videna IPD, Sports Center No. 3, in the district of San Luis. More information at www.agrofest.pe
