Import volumes of berries to Russia from China and Kyrgyzstan are increasing.
Russian regional plant health authorities reported a series of inspections berries imported fresh produce —mainly strawberries— that entered different areas of the country from Serbia, Türkiye, Kyrgyzstan, China, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
In the Kaliningrad region, 9,5 tons of fresh strawberries from Serbia were inspected on April 20. Document checks and vehicle inspections revealed no violations. Between February 1 and April 20, inspectors in the region reviewed a total of 45 tons of fresh strawberries imported from Serbia and Turkey.
In Altai Krai, inspectors returned a shipment of 2,4 tons of fresh strawberries from Kyrgyzstan to the sender after detecting violations of the Eurasian Economic Union's phytosanitary requirements. Since the beginning of the year, approximately 22 tons of fresh strawberries originating from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan have been inspected at border crossings in Altai Krai along the Russian-Kazakh border.
One of the largest increases was observed in Zabaykalsky Krai, where 190 tons of strawberries from China were inspected between January 1 and April 22 at the Zabaykalsk border crossing. All shipments underwent laboratory testing. During the same period in 2025, the volume imported through that point had been only 40 tons.
In the Amur region, phytosanitary authorities monitored the import of approximately 2.500 tons of berries Fresh produce from China was shipped between January 12 and April 22 through the Kani-Kurgan border crossing. The shipments included strawberries, cherries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and blackberries, distributed in more than 400 shipments.
Within that volume, more than 2.000 tons of strawberries and 67 tons of [unspecified product] stood out. blueberries17 tons of raspberries, 14 tons of cherries, 6 tons of blackberries, and 600 kilos of brambleberries. Strawberry imports alone increased from 70 tons in 26 shipments during the same period in 2025 to 2.200 tons in 300 shipments this year. The strawberries that arrived in the Perm Krai, Buryatia, and Murmansk regions originated in Kyrgyzstan. In Perm Krai, authorities inspected the arrival of 6 tons of fresh strawberries, the first such shipment in 2026, as no deliveries had been recorded during the same period in 2025.
In Buryatia, an 8-ton shipment of fresh strawberries was released after laboratory tests ruled out the presence of quarantine organisms. In the Murmansk region, four shipments totaling 20 tons of fresh strawberries, brought in by land, were inspected during April.
Meanwhile, in the Kuban region, approximately 1.500 tons of strawberries have been imported since the beginning of the year, which is 1.000 tons less than in the same period of the previous year.
