Agreements between Mexico and China to export "berries" to the East

The National Association of Berry Exporters (ANEBERRIS) and the China Association of Wholesale Agricultural Products Markets (CAWA) -considered as the largest conglomerate of wholesale agricultural importers in China- signed a memorandum of understanding for the promotion and certification of products between both countries.

As a witness of honor, the general coordinator of Raúl Urteaga Trani, indicated that the work between Mexico and China has resulted in the certification of various products International Affairs of the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA), agro-food products by the authorities of the Asian nation for export.

He stressed that after the work headed by the head of SAGARPA, Enrique Martínez y Martínez, to advance in the opening of this market, currently has the authorization for the sale in China of raspberry and blackberry, and soon is expected the certification for blueberries.

He reported that in recent months there has been a greater rapprochement between Chinese buyers and Mexican producers to expand the presence of domestic food in that destination.

He explained that the CAWA agenda included visits to strawberry production orchards and cold distribution centers oriented to export to China, in different municipalities of the state of Michoacán.

For his part, the president of ANEBERRIES, Mario Andrade Cárdenas, recognized consumers and marketers in China for the interest shown in the products offered by Mexico and trusted that this is the beginning of a long and prosperous commercial relationship between both.

He informed that with the signing of the memorandum of understanding will also strengthen the promotional campaigns of Mexican berries in China, in order to strengthen the presence of these products among consumers.

He pointed out that according to the Agri-Food and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP), in the country there is a planted area of ​​around 24.000 hectares of cranberry, raspberry, strawberry and blackberry, with an estimated production of 548.000 tons and a commercial value of 9.800 millions of pesos.

In addition, he said, this agroindustry generates 150.000 direct jobs and more than indirect 200.000, nationally.

Prior to the signing, the Chinese delegation toured for five days the cultivation of berries in various municipalities of the state of Michoacán to create commercial links between Chinese companies and exporters of the entity.

Gardens were visited in the region of Zamora, Jacona, Los Reyes and Tangancícuaro, Michoacán, where buyers observed the process of harvesting, harvesting and packaging strawberries, and lived with the producers, who explained in detail the production process.

Subsequently, they visited several cold distribution centers oriented to export to China, where they verified the level of health and safety required by national and international agencies.

Finally, business tables were held between CAWA and ANEBERRIES, which counted with the participation of seven berry exporting companies. As a result of this meeting, the Mexican agribusinesses reported an estimated sales of 2,8 million dollars.
