ADEX: The United States was the main importer of Peruvian blueberries in January

In the first month of the year, total shipments totaled more than US $ 9.6 million. In addition the exporting guild projected that for the 2017, the turnover will close in US $ 300 million.

The Association of Exporters (ADEX) reported that in January of this year, Peruvian exports of blueberries - whose main presentations were in fresh and juices - totaled US $ 9 million 656 thousand.

During the first month of 2017, the United States was the main buyer of the referred agricultural product after placing orders for US $ 4 thousand. Then followed the Netherlands or Holland (US $ 507 million 2 thousand), the United Kingdom (US $ 628 million 2 thousand), and Spain (US $ 170 thousand 166).

In total, the national blueberry came to 13 markets, which also include Thailand, Russia, France, Puerto Rico and El Salvador.

On the other hand, according to the ADEX Data Trade Commercial Intelligence System, the main Peruvian company that exported the antioxidant in January was Tal SA (US $ 2 million 699 thousand); followed by Hortifrut Tal SAC (2 million 615 thousand), Camposol SA, Blueberries Peru SAC, Complejo Agroindustrial Beta SA and Agrícola Cerro Prieto SA

EXPECTATIONS FOR THE 2017

Thanks to the fact that it has become a star product of Peruvian agroexports, Paula Carrión, Agro manager of ADEX, projected that blueberry turnover for the present would close at US $ 300 million, which would represent an increase in shipments of 23% with respect to 2016.

The executive stressed that Peru can be a dynamic exporter, since its shipments are basically produced because it is a healthy and nutritious product, which has allowed it to direct it to new markets. Furthermore, a comparative advantage over the competition is that our territory has favorable conditions for the production and cultivation of blueberries. However, Carrión clarified that there are still aspects that must be improved such as the logistical conditions for its transport, a greater presence in international fairs and greater promotion.
