ADEX: Peruvian exports redouble their will for growth

"The national productive apparatus must be strengthened, not only with the objective of exporting more, but also to meet the needs of our nation and better face future crises"

The meetings “For the Reactivation and Development of Peruvian Exports”, organized by the Association of Exporters (ADEX), have been the stage to learn about the plans of the candidates for the presidency of Peru in the field of re-boosting exports.

The important business organization holds these events with the aim of learning about the different visions and proposals regarding foreign trade and economic recovery for the sector.

More infrastructure to export more

The common denominator of all the guests has been to focus on investment in infrastructure so that Peruvian export products are more competitive. “Without infrastructure it is impossible to consider being a world power in exports. We propose the construction of a network of highways, trains and airports, as well as the development of the cold chain ”, said one of the guests, interpreting the majority.

The expansion of ports through rail connections with areas up to 10 km apart, promoting the use of Free Trade Agreements and ratifying the Trans-Pacific Agreement (CPTPP), are other initiatives that have emerged collectively.

Increase volumes

Achieve a volume of exports with added value for an additional USD 10.000 billion by 2026; guarantee the creation of more formal jobs in the productive and export sector; the creation of the National Innovation Agency to connect CITEs, Sierra y Selva Exportadora and PromPerú; and enable more highways to strengthen the export sector; are some of the proposals.

Illustrating these demands, they comment that currently moving a container from the Jungle to Lima has the same cost as exporting it to China, which is why, according to businessmen, there is a pending agenda to be resolved in terms of infrastructure. There are many products from the Amazon that do not leave due to lack of roads. It is vital to unite Peru from Tumbes to Tacna, from Junín to Lima, they comment.

"The national productive apparatus must be strengthened, not only with the objective of exporting more, but also to meet the needs of our nation and better face future crises", "We cannot continue to dispatch raw materials, we have to modernize the country with technology and innovation . We must work and give greater added value to our offer ”, are some of the phrases that are repeated.

2021: Another good year for blueberries

ADEX projects that 2021 will be a good year for Peruvian blueberries and is optimistic after the ruling in the Safeguard case, which did not accept the request for restrictions on imports by the US.

In the previous season, the main destinations for blueberries were the USA (53%), the Netherlands (25%), China (7%), the UK (7%), Hong Kong (4%), and the main exporting companies They were Camposol, Hortifut Peru, Agrovisión, Complejo Beta and Agroberries Peru, according to information from Adex Data Trade, 2020.

For the campaign from June 2020 to June 2021, an increase of 35% is projected compared to last season.
