Agriculture projects 15 thousand hectares of fruits for harvest in La Araucanía during 2020-2021

The Ministry of Agriculture projects 15 thousand hectares of fruit for harvest in La Araucanía during the 2020-2021 season, where the majority will be exported.

The seremi of the portfolio in the area, Ricardo Senn, ruled out that the scam of a Chilean company to evade taxes with the sale of raspberries from China to Canada, it affects the reputation of the sector.

Thus, the Government sees with expectations the arrival of a new agricultural season, which allows exporting a large amount of fruits and vegetables that are harvested on local soil.

The seremi of Agriculture, Ricardo Senn, confirmed to Radio Bío Bío that 15 thousand hectares of fruit are projected for this season, where 90% will be exported, highlighting cherries and berries.

But a relevant point that could affect the item is the recent internationally known scam starring a Chilean company - owned by Juan Sutil, according to La Tercera - that imported berries from China and then exported them as a national product to Canada.

Senn said he hopes that this bad news does not affect the reputation of the sector abroad, it being understood that it was a specific event of entrepreneurs with a lack of judgment.

Ricardo Senn assured that to date Chilean exports have not been depleted to a greater extent regarding the pandemic, but only with the international restrictions that have been imposed.

Despite that, the agricultural authority announced that they hope to reach 20 thousand hectares of harvest for the 2021 season in the region of La Araucanía.
