Agroexports seek to reach new records this 2023

Peru is among the top 10 world producers of grapes, blueberries, avocados, kion and other crops.

Peruvian agricultural exports with added value seek to reach new records this 2023 and resume their behavior of previous years. In 2011 and 2014, they achieved rates of 29% and 23%, respectively, according to the Agro-export Management of the Exporters Association (ADEX). While in the following years they experienced a slowdown: in 2015 (2%); 2016 (7%); 2017 (9%); 2018 (14%); 2019 (10%); 2020 (6%) and in 2021 (18%).

The president of the union entity, Julio Pérez Alván, highlighted the importance of this activity and called it the "agro-industrial miracle" since Peru is among the top 10 world producers of grapes, blueberries, avocados, kion and other crops.

In 2021, Peru was the world's leading exporter of blueberries, quinoa, and grapes. In addition, the second of canned asparagus and fresh asparagus; the third of canned olives, avocados, dried paprika and canned artichoke, and the fourth of kion, according to a report from the Center for Research on Global Economy and Business (CIEN-ADEX).

“The sector got ahead thanks to having clear policies such as the Agrarian Promotion Law (Law No. 27360) which encouraged private investment; and the Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), with which the supply of food accessed more markets. It was a joint effort and it had the support of the government”, commented Pérez.

With the aim of strengthening the agro-industrial chain and positioning its offer abroad, ADEX –through its Agro-export Management– will hold a series of events this year, among which fairs, conferences, trade missions, congresses and conventions stand out.

Next April, the Agro-exporter Lunch will be held, in which information related to the trend of products, evolution, projections, state-of-the-art technology, prioritized destinations and other aspects that will add to their competitiveness will be delivered to attendees.

Specialized events will also take place such as the I International Congress of Passifloras in Barranca (June), the III Cocoa and Chocolate Cocktail in Lima (July) and the XI Capsicum Convention in Arequipa (August), among other activities.
