Agronometrics in Charts: Berry price update in the US market.

In this article in the series "En Gráficas", Cristian Crespo from Agronometrics shows us how the United States market is evolving. Each week the series will analyze a different fruit and vegetable crop, focusing on a specific origin or theme to see what factors are driving the change.

On this occasion, in "In Graphics" we will take a tour to see how the volumes and average prices of blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and blackberries have behaved in the United States market, to compare them with previous seasons.

Blueberries

We will start by talking about the volumes of berries in the United States market. With respect to blueberries, Peruvian blueberry arrivals have been higher than in 2019, which could be pushing prices down. We must be attentive to how the North American market reacts when the large volumes from Chile begin to arrive.

In relation to the price of blueberries, these have been similar to those of 2019, although during weeks 43 to 48 of this year 2020 they showed a significant decrease compared to the same weeks in 2019.

If we look at the graph below, we can see that in week 48, the average price of conventional blueberries was USD 5.33 / KG, 24% lower than 2019, where the average prices were USD 6.97 / KG. The volumes that reach the North American market are those from Mexico.
