Agrotrade Peru bets on new opportunities for fruit growing

Seminar will bring together prominent Chilean and Peruvian exhibitors with the aim of analyzing from a commercial, productive and technical point of view the species that are feasible for cultivation in Peru. Also the trend in fruit consumption in the world and exchange commercial experiences between both markets.

Morning The now traditional Agrotrade Peru meeting will be held at the Belmond Miraflores Park hotel in Lima, a seminar that will bring together prominent Chilean and Peruvian exhibitors whose presentations will be aimed at publicizing alternatives to expand the export basket and support the growth of fruit in Peru.

“The program of this seminar consists of talks on trends in the export market for fruit and non-traditional species in Peru, such as cherry, olive and almond trees, among others, as well as clonal avocados and new varieties for vines, designed for the international markets and in the opportunities offered by the diverse edaphoclimatic conditions of the different agricultural valleys of Peru”, comments Maritrini Lapuente, general manager of the organizing entity, Viveros de Chile.

Agrotrade Peru will also address mechanization alternatives in fruit crops and technologies for cherry production, where expert speakers will provide key tools for successful management in areas with low accumulation of cold hours.
“I believe that Agrotrade is an excellent meeting platform between the Chilean fruit experience and the great production potential of Peru. It is essential today to generate synergies between countries, in order to strengthen ourselves as an agro-exporting fruit sector," says Claudia Fassio, a specialist in clonal propagation of subtropical fruit trees (PhD), who will participate as a speaker in this seminar.

Potential of clonal rootstocks in avocado
“The idea of my presentation is to explain the potential use of clonal rootstocks today worldwide and the great opportunity they represent, not only in terms of tolerance to certain limiting soil conditions for avocado trees, but also in terms of improving productivity. (uniformity) and fruit quality for the increasingly demanding markets that we face today. I believe that clonal production worldwide is a very complex issue and the advantage is that Chile has almost 15 years of experience, both in clonal production and in the management of clonal orchards. We are an excellent alternative of elite material (quality) with all the phytosanitary safeguards that an industry, such as the avocado industry, requires for a good productive start”, adds Fassio.

Technical look of the cherry tree
Precisely, the presentation "A technical look at Cherry trees", which will cover from physiological issues of the species, to cutting-edge technical management, will be the theme presented by Marcelo Correa, Professor of Fruit Growing at the University of Talca, general manager of the Agricultural Society Correa e Hijos and outstanding adviser in fruit growing.

“There are early varieties that could be interesting for Peru. The most important thing is to choose the one that meets the necessary Cold Hours and that has an adequate post-harvest to reach the Chinese market (40-45 days post-harvest)", comments the specialist, anticipating which are the most suitable varieties for the region.

High expectations
Finally, for Mauricio Zúñiga, Technical Commercial Manager of Agromillora, also an exhibitor at Agrotrade Peru, the expectations of this seminar "are very good, since strategic actors of the industry will meet where we will be able to comment and discuss the different alternatives and innovations in the FRUITCULTURE".

His presentation will be focused on showing investment alternatives for different crops in search of diversification and the Efficient and Sustainable Solutions (SES) proposed by Agromillora, in which there is already successful experience with olive, cherry, plum, almond, apple and hazel trees. , among others. "The goal is to become a strategic ally for the growth and diversification of fruit growing in Peru," he adds.

The event is sponsored by the Association of Exporters of Peru, ADEX and ProChile Peru, becoming, as in its last version, a meeting platform between Peruvian producers, international advisors and Chilean nurserymen.
