Data Analysis: Peru's Position in the Global Blueberry Market

Peru has three distinct strengths in the market: adaptability and accumulated experience, innovation and genetic improvement, and industrial maturity.

Global blueberry production is projected to reach 2027 billion kilos by 2.500, confirming the upward trend seen in recent years. This figure was provided by the agricultural engineer Pablo Cortes, from the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso and sales manager of Agronometrics.
Cortés presented the paper “Analysis of data from recent seasons: Peru's position in the global blueberry market” at the XXXIV International Blueberry Seminar Peru 2025, organized by Blueberries Consulting.

Producers
In this sense, America leads the world in blueberry production, with Peru being the number one producer in the blueberry industry, ahead of Mexico, the Netherlands, Chile, and Morocco.
According to the figures presented by Cortés, the global export landscape ten years ago was dominated by Chile, the United States, and Canada. However, since 2018, the Peruvian industry has taken off, leading the upward trend in production.
By 2024, the main destinations for Peruvian exports are the United States (55.1%), the Netherlands (22.4%), and China (12.3%).

Strengths
He also mentioned that Peru has three distinct strengths in the market: adaptability and accumulated experience, innovation and genetic improvement, and maturity in the industry. Therefore, it is necessary to work on maintaining sustainable growth, targeting emerging markets such as China, India, and Middle Eastern countries, and focusing on the development of higher-quality varieties.
He also mentioned that the weaknesses include market fluctuations, limitations in rural infrastructure, and a shortage of labor and legalized employment.

Finally, he mentioned that the industry's growth objectives lie in the pursuit of "quality 365 days a year and the expansion of consumption, customers, and markets."
Cortés noted that the advanced analysis tool for Peru's export data, implemented by Agronometrics, has allowed for improved export data accuracy, automatic green channel integration, refinement of the green channel to the US, strategic decision-making, and risk mitigation based on current and historical information.
