Blueberry: Morocco is now Russia's number one supplier

Blueberry exports to the Russian market reached 1.900 tons and generated $ 13,7 million.

In Morocco, the blueberry sector reached the peak of export performance in 2020 in the Russian market. In the current health context linked to the coronavirus, Morocco has managed to be the first supplier of blueberries to Russia.

In fact, according to the data transmitted by  fresh plaza , Morocco was able to show good dynamism in the soft fruit sector by exporting considerably large quantities of around 1.900 tonnes of blueberries to the Russian market during the first 6 months. of the year. This volume marks an increase of 36,4% compared to the same period in 2019 and represents more than 45% of the total purchases made by Russia during that period (4.200 tons).

This performance allowed the country to obtain revenues of $ 13,7 million, or just under half the value of Russian imports ($ 30,5 million). Taking into account that the sector produces almost 200.000 tons of fruit per year and generates on average more than $ 350 million in exports, mainly in the Larache region, which is the main region where the production of red fruits is omnipresent with almost half of cultivated areas.
