Cranberries: USA / Canada continues to be the main destination with a share of 67%
Disconcerting, it is what dominates the blueberry producers of the VII region to the south that are in harvest.
The behavior of the varieties has been very different from the usual due to the cold climate that has dominated the spring and summer of Chile, making it very difficult to predict beginnings and terms of collection. Even so, 2 tons were sent during the 7.815 week, a volume aligned with the period in which the crops are in Chile, which gives an accumulated of 53.980 tons of blueberries, maintaining a difference of -13% with respect to the previous season . USA / Canada continues to be the main destination with a share of 67% (36.152 ton), followed by Europe with a 22% (11.976 ton) and Far East with a 11% (5.755 ton).
Despite the high volumes exported per week in the last 5 weeks, which average 7.700 tons per week, it is still difficult to predict the harvests and their dynamics for the rest of the season. Some producers who have finished Duke in the VIII Region confirm the reduction in weight of berries that was reported and for which the estimate was lowered and they wonder if the same thing will happen with the rest of the varieties. The Rabiteye are beginning but development and maturation are very slow. The hope is that with the increase of the temperature that was observed in the last week the maturation process is activated and the berries achieve normal weights.
Another aspect that is observed in the harvests is a smaller overlap between one and another variety, leaving in some cases spaces of time in which there is no fruit to harvest, which hinders the handling of the people and demands a closer monitoring of the processes of maturation. For this reason weeks of low volumes could be presented in the coming weeks due to the waiting that is needed between one variety and another.
The harvest in the south central area is focused on Rabbiteye varieties that are already reaching the peak of volumes. In the southern zone, Brigitta is at the peak in the IX Region, while Legacy is observed with decreasing volumes. Elliot has not started yet.
Northern Zone (IV-V region)
The north zone is finished.
Central Zone (RM-VI region)
The downtown area is finished.
South-Central Zone (VII-VIII region)
In the VII Region, the harvest of Legacy and Brigitta for fresh are finished in the area of Parral. At the moment the focus is on Brightwell, which shows an advance between an 40% to an 60% depending on the area. Tifblue starting, estimating an advance around an 20%. Ochlockonee, starting this week with low volumes, as in the VIII Region.
South Zone (IX-XIV-X region)
In the IX Region, the Duke harvest is finished. Brigitta is at the peak this week in the area of Freire, while Legacy has already passed the peak and begins to decline in volumes. Elliot starting in some early orchards, however, for the 4 or 5 week, the start of this variety in the region is expected. Fruit of good quality and caliber is reported.
