Blueberries and mandarins have opportunities in Asian countries

Thailand and Malaysia are potential destinations for Peruvian blueberries and mandarins, as stated by the Minister of the Diplomatic Service of the Republic (SDR) of the Embassy of Peru in Thailand, Carmen Azurín; and the second secretary of the SDR of the Embassy of Peru in Malaysia, Guillermo Lauriano, during his participation in the virtual forum 'Blueberry market profile in Thailand and mandarins in Malaysia', an event that was part of an agreement signed by the Association of Exporters ( ADEX), the Academic Centers of ADEX (Ceadex) and the Ministry of Foreign Relations (RR.EE.).
The minister of the SDR of the Embassy of Peru in Thailand, Carmen Azurín, commented that the Peruvian blueberry can enter that nation thanks to the advantage granted by the bilateral protocol of 2011, with a preferential tariff of 0%.

He added that the 'new normal' post Covid-19 will accentuate the purchase of healthy products. In the case of food, they will prefer innocuous, tasty, accessible and that strengthen the immune system, in addition to choosing brands with a high awareness of respect for the environment and social sustainability.
“The national blueberry must differentiate itself from the competition by maintaining a good size, quality and a slight degree of acidity, as preferred by the Thais. It is also essential to have certifications that guarantee safety and care for the environment. Organic is more valued and has a higher price ”, he emphasized.
This berry is produced primarily in La Libertad, Lima and Lambayeque. It is recognized for being a superfood with important nutritional properties: proteins, fiber, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, vitamin A, B complex, among others.

The second secretary of the SDR of the Embassy of Peru in Malaysia, Guillermo Lauriano, said that to take advantage of the potential of that nation as a destination for Peruvian mandarins, it must be accompanied by an increase in production, in order to compete with consolidated suppliers.
“It is important to highlight the exports of this citrus to China, as it could be of interest to some Malaysian importers with Chinese ancestry. The issue of races is deeply rooted in that territory. There is a population especially of the Malay, Chinese and Indian races ”, he added.
In relation to consumption habits, it has been identified that those of Chinese origin choose more fruits and vegetables, have greater control of their economy and large companies.
