Argentina: The export stage of Tucumán blueberries began and it is expected to exceed 2014 volumes

The producers of Tucumán began the new blueberry export campaign this week and, according to the estimates of the Institute for Productive Development, they expect to equal or exceed the 5 tons sold to the United States and Europe last year.

Producers from Tucumán launched the new cranberry export campaign this week, and according to estimates from the Institute for Productive Development (Idep) in the province, the expectations are to equal or surpass the levels of last year, when they were marketed in the Outside 5.000 tons.

"Expectations are good from the private sector since the climatic conditions accompanied this year because we did not suffer frost and the conditions of the fruits are good", said Fernando Martorell, coordinator of foreign trade of the Idep.

The official explained that "It is necessary to hope that in the next two months we will also be accompanied by the weather and that we will not have rain to be able to harvest without problems".

In 2014, Tucumán exported around 5000 tons of blueberries, of which 60% came from the province, including fruit from Salta, Corrientes and Santa Fe.

The inaugural flight transported 50 tons of fresh fruit from Teniente Benjamín Matienzo Airport with final destination to Miami, United States. The next containers will also be directed to countries of the European Union (EU).
