Argentina: Start the blueberry export campaign

On Saturday night, the first shipment of blueberries from the Benjamín Matienzo airport was completed. This was indicated in the association of local producers and the Institute of Productive Development of Tucumán (IDEP).

According to reports, 2017 exports from Tucumán would start with a smaller cargo (50 tons), taking into account the capacity of the current local airstrip, after the infrastructure works that were carried out in the last two years. In 2016, the loading platform was built; while in June and August of this year the reconstruction of the central runway was carried out.

It is expected that stocks will increase over the weeks.

"The export campaign will start early, compared to previous years, as it had begun during the first days of October. Except last year, which started at the end of September", Commented Fernando Martorell, coordinator of Foreign Trade of the IDEP.

The 2016 season closed with a total of 5.411 tons of blueberries exported from Tucumán. The load exceeded the historical record, which in 2014 was 4.300 tons, which meant an 60% more than what was exported throughout 2015, according to data from the national Ministry of Transportation.

"Today the conditions are available to overcome the previous results", Emphasized Martorell, who pointed out that last year the 67% of the flights took place during the day.
