Argentina: Cranberry production will stabilize from week 43

The low temperatures that Argentina has had have affected the volumes that the markets are receiving from this country. It is estimated that production will return to its normal rhythm from the 43 / 44 week.

The frosts of late spring are the main focus of attention of Argentine producers; however, no one expected such a weak start to the 2015 season. In addition, El Niño remains dormant, as the weather forecast provides for a rainy season.

Consequently, the Argentine Blueberries Committee (ABC) doubts that the promising forecasts of the 37 week will be fulfilled. In fact, everything points to a decrease of 12% in the volume of fruit compared to the 2014 season, which would mean a total of around 14.500 tons in Argentina.

Regarding prices, importers will have to resign themselves to continue paying high prices for Argentine fruit, although this does not compensate producers, who suffer this circumstance and the losses caused by hail and frost.

Production is expected to return to normal from week 43 / 44, a breath of fresh air for blueberry producers and exporters in the country.
