Argentina: SEPA Móvil, award for the best agricultural application
The Geospatial World Forum gave SEPA Móvil the prize for the best application of the agro for smartphones and tablets with Android system. This tool, developed by the Institute of Climate and Water of INTA, allows to obtain freely and free of charge data on the climate, topography, soils and the state of the crop in a specific campaign and in any point of the country.
For Carlos Di Bella, director of the Institute of Climate and Water of INTA and ideologist of the tool together with Alfredo Campos, researcher of the same Institute, "this award for excellence in the application means a great recognition for science and technology in Argentina in general and for INTA in particular "
Held in Lisbon -Portugal-, the Geospatial World Forum rewards the best applications created for mobile devices. The award recognizes, worldwide, applications that make an exemplary use of geospatial tools in various fields, such as government, infrastructure, public safety, public services, design and engineering, environment, agriculture, mining and exploration, among others. Argentine technology in general and for INTA in particular".
This year, the event brought together representatives of more than 80 countries in four plenary sessions, 35 thematic sessions and more than 40 workshops that cover the most varied spectrum of the geospatial industry.
In reference to the ability of the tool to carry out the monitoring of agricultural production, Di Bella explained that the application calculates the geographical position and obtains information through the network 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS or a predefined list of locations Among the data that can be consulted, they highlight "the amount of rainfall recorded in the last week, month or semester, temperature, height and topographic slope", he pointed.
Likewise, "SEPA Mobile performs an analysis of the vegetation status of the current campaign and offers the possibility of comparing it with historical maximum and minimum averages. Provides data on the composition of the soil, its limitations and its main characteristics", Expressed the Director of the Institute of Climate and Water.
Since its launch in December of 2014, SEPA Mobile had around 5.000 downloads and more than 90 reviews that give it an average rating of 4 / 5 points.
"It is important to highlight that this system is in a process of updating and continuous improvement, incorporating day to day more scientific-technological developments that are made available to users"Di Bella concluded.
