Asoex launches campaign to promote blueberry consumption in Chile

Chile projects the total production of 167.588 tons of these berries in the 2022-2023 season.

Blueberries are a food of excellent nutritional qualities (high levels of vitamins B, C and K) and benefits for the body, ranging from improving heart health to preventing senile dementia. In addition to having a good taste, they are fat-free and only have 42 calories per cup, which helps to have a balanced diet, essential for a healthy body.

For this reason, in order to encourage their consumption in the population and make more and more Chileans aware of the benefits of these small fruits, the Association of Chilean Fruit Exporters (Asoex) and its Blueberry Committee launched the campaign “Blueberries With Everything!” with the dissemination of its qualities in the mass media.

“Blueberries are a food of excellent nutritional properties and health benefits and they are highly demanded by international markets, such as the United States and Europe. However, in Chile not everyone knows its benefits, or does not know how to prepare it. For this reason, we are proud to launch the campaign 'Arándanos ¡Con Todo!' which we hope will help us boost internal consumption and thus ensure that every day more Chileans have a healthier diet”, commented the president of Asoex, Iván Marambio.

In addition, Marambio stressed, "preferring these fruits helps boost economic development in the areas where they are produced, from the Coquimbo region to Los Lagos." The truth is that the country is fertile ground for the production of this little blue berry thanks to its Mediterranean climate. This allows sweeter varieties to be produced locally, with great flavor and quality for the final consumer.

season projections

For the 2022-2023 season, Chile is expected to have a blueberry production that reaches 167.588 tons. Of this total, it is estimated that fresh exports amount to 98.228 tons, while that of frozen fruit is 60.000. It is also planned to allocate 9.300 tons to produce processed foods such as juices and dried fruit, and boost the domestic market, according to figures from the Blueberry Committee of the Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile.
