2020-2021 Season Preview: Chilean blueberry exports register 15% increase in relation to the previous season
According to the latest crop report from the Chilean Blueberry Committee of ASOEX, “the season continues to advance with predominant volumes from the northern zone where a good advance of the harvest is observed and where the peak of the season is already passing. While in the central zone the advance is observed more calm given the more moderate temperatures observed in recent weeks. The central zone is beginning timidly, mainly with orchards under tunnel while the fields in the open air are already being incorporated, but with a slow advance, also associated with the effect of moderate temperatures ”.
The Committee adds that accumulated exports for week 45-2020 total 2.776 tons, 15% more than the previous season on the same date, with North America being the main destination with 63% of the volumes accumulated to date. This is due to the high participation of organic blueberries in shipments from Chile in this part of the season, which are mainly destined for this market.
Organic
Until week 45, organic blueberries add up to 1.532 tons, 55% of the total exported. The Far East follows in importance with a 32% share and a growth of 41% compared to the same week of the previous season, where Korea stands out as the most dynamic in terms of growth.
