In the coming years, thanks to the Pampas Verdes project, promoted by the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), Ica will expand its agricultural frontier and strengthen its position as the most important exporting region in the country.

This was stated by the second vice president of the Association of Exporters (Adex), Rafael del Campo, at the presentation of the 'XLIII Ica Tourism Week', to be held from November 10 to 17.

“In addition to being a tourist attraction, Ica is experiencing a remarkable boom agro-exporter, leading the production and export of grapes, asparagus and blueberries, generating thousands of jobs and strengthening the economy.”

He said that the event was attended by the mayor of Ica, Carlos Reyes Roque; the regional director of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Gore Ica, Gustavo Huerta Escate and the president of the Organizing Executive Committee, Milagros Castilla Valenzuela.

Del Campo added that Adex understands that tourism and trade must advance hand in hand with sustainability and respect for the community; and for this reason it is committed to the promotion and development of various activities that generate prosperity for all.

In 2023, and excluding Lima and Callao, Ica was the main exporting region, totaling 7,322 million dollars and representing 14.8% of the total. It should be noted that the hydroelectric project Green Pampas (Ayacucho) will require an investment of 6,500 billion dollars, will generate electricity and supply water to three regions: Ayacucho, Ica and Arequipa.

According to figures from the Adex Data Trade Intelligence System, between January and August of this year Ica remained the main exporting region (not counting Lima and Callao), with 5,498 million dollars.

Although the traditional sector (3,805 million dollars) was the most prominent, accumulating 69% of the total and achieving an increase of 20.4%, the non-traditional sector (1,692 million dollars) concentrated 31% and experienced an increase of 10.4%.

The agroindustry was the sector with the most important added value. Grapes and avocados were the main products with 452 million 537,000 thousand dollars and 254 million dollars, respectively.

The significant growth of avocados should be highlighted, with 120%. Other products include Wilking mandarins, other fresh fruits, fresh or chilled asparagus and blueberries.

The XLIII Tourism Week is organized by the regional government of Ica and the Executive Organizing Committee, made up of representatives of unions and private companies. Among the highlighted activities, there will be the traditional walk 'From Winery to Winery', in which participants will be able to taste the famous pisco and other delicious grape derivatives.

Additionally, the event “Hatun Tinkuy Ika – Huaca Tacaraca” will allow attendees to delve into the rich history of the region and will present an innovative tourist circuit entitled “Ica for all” in the district of Ocucaje, along with exciting creative cocktail contests, housekeeping and more.
