"Good start to the Peruvian blueberry campaign in Europe"

The blueberry export figures published by the FAO statistical portal reveal the great boom of this fruit in recent decades. At the turn of the century, world exports of the berry were worth just over $69 million; in 2010, this value had grown to more than 370 million dollars, and in 2020, the last year for which consolidated data is available, it had skyrocketed to almost 2.403 million dollars. This evolution has only been possible thanks to a rapid and surprising increase in global demand, which, as in Europe, still has room to continue growing.

"At Euroandes we seek to complement the sales channels in Europe of our strategic allies in Peru and Colombia, among which are companies such as Danper, Arbacol and Dominus," says Christian Pereda. "Blueberry consumption is on the rise and the exportable supply has also grown significantly, so at Euroandes we have been working to strategically expand in those markets where our allies have not yet done so."

«On the operations side, we are very flexible. “We are based in both Spain and the Netherlands, and operate through the main ports in Europe, offering tailored solutions to our customers.”

Euroandes expects to market some 2.000 tons of blueberries this season. “We have started the campaign with good prices and we believe that the situation can continue to be interesting for another week or two. Then there will be more supply pressure on the market, with considerable volumes arriving in Europe from Peru."

"We have started the blueberry season in August and we will have supply until January, but in Euroandes we will aim to extend this period by resorting to supply from other origins, whether from Africa or South America. “This will allow us to supply fruit to our customers all year round.”

"Hand in hand with our allies in Colombia, we seek to complement the supply of avocados of calibers that are usually scarce in the European market"
Euroandes is an importing, distributing and marketing company with a portfolio that, in addition to blueberries, includes products such as mangoes or premium quality canned vegetables. Right now, according to Christian Pereda, they are looking to introduce other exotic products, such as cape gooseberry, gulupa, and the Tahiti lime from Colombia. Avocados are another of their main products. These are available all year.

The avocado harvest in Colombia is divided by geographical zones. This allows for a wide marketing window and fruits with different characteristics, including size, which this year is emerging as a very important factor in the European market.

“The advantage of Arbacol is that it has fields in different areas. In Colombia, the earliest harvest begins at altitudes of 1.600 meters and ends in December/January in the highest areas, at 2.000 meters above sea level. As the altitude of the crop increases, so does the size of the fruit produced,” says Christian. "Given that Spain is expected to deliver many small and medium sizes, what we seek to obtain from our allies' farms are precisely the sizes that will be most scarce on the market."

“Our strategic ally Arbacol has an important exportable supply and is ready to supply all year round. This offer is complemented by that of our allies in Peru, who supply avocado from mid-February (with the earliest harvest in the mountains) until the end of August.»
