«Good volumes of berries from Chile, but it is not a record year»

The import season of Chilean blueberries is coming to an end. «Our sales season to Europe started two months later due to high prices in the United States and Asia, but, over the two weeks, I have been receiving more than ten containers per week and the situation is expected to continue during the next two weeks. next three weeks, which will make volumes higher than last year", predicts Ed Olivier, of Allfresh International.

ALL FRESH Exportaciones Ltd was founded in 2011 by a group of horticulturists in Chile. With fruits from Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Peru, Mexico, Spain, Morocco, Poland and the United States, All Fresh can supply its customers with "berries" almost all the year. In Asia, especially in Hong Kong, All Fresh collaborates with Moon Hill, so most of China also has a good forecast of blueberries. Ed Olivier represents the Dutch sales office. At LBP Rotterdam, arrivals are managed and European distribution organized.

 Europe as plan B
Olivier explains that it is not an excessively good year for "berries". «Technically, in terms of prices, we are a little above last year, but, in terms of quality, the season has been difficult. Chile remains our largest production region, but we also receive blueberries from other parts to provide our customers with berries all year round. If the market is good in the United States and Asia, Europe will be plan B for overseas producers.".
"ACurrently, Spain is in the market, but not with very large volumes; "We don't expect them until around week 15. Until then, I hope to be able to sell our Chilean berries well.", predicts Olivier. «Morocco, a promising country in the production of blueberries, is also on the market, but with exorbitant prices. I think Morocco will get a bigger market share. This will not be the case with Argentine berries, which are of mediocre quality. Peru is increasingly present in the market».
All Fresh can package "berries" according to various calibers or weights for your clients. The importer points out the increase of the shaker container as a remarkable trend. It is not the same with "berries" ecological, he adds. «The problem is always the price. If conventional 'berries' cost 10 euros, organic ones have to reach 13 or 14 euros and few people are willing to pay them. The quality of this season's organic berries has also been disappointing.", concludes Olivier.
