Warm winter overtakes cranberry season of British Columbia
After experiencing an unusually warm and sunny winter, the cranberry producers of British Columbia (Canada) expect the 2015 season to start the next June 20, the earliest start they can remember.
According to a statement from the British Columbia Blueberry Council, 800 blueberry producers in the province are also anticipating a wide offer of the product, with good quality fruit for the 2015 campaign.
It should be remembered that the 2014 season had yields close to 68 million kilograms.
"Thanks to the warm days and a good climate of pollination, we are sure that we will enjoy a solid volume of high quality blueberries during the season"Said Debbie Etsell, executive director of the BC Blueberry Council.
"We do not anticipate any kind of compression this season, which translates into a constant supply of blueberries for everyone to enjoy berries throughout the season"He added.
As seen in recent years, an increase in the product available has allowed BC Blueberry Council to continue expanding its marketing efforts abroad, creating new demand for exports from the province.
In this regard, it should be recalled that earlier this year the Council attended the Gulfood trade show in Dubai and plans to attend Asia Fruit Logistica in Hong Kong and Anuga in Germany.
In addition, the organization is making progress in gaining access to the Korean market, whose inspectors will arrive in Vancouver at the beginning of July.
