The executive of QSI stressed that Peru, to achieve the goals indicated in the technical aspect, should increase the development of capabilities and solutions aimed at overcoming the main problems and difficulties of the cultivation of cranberry.
The manager of Química Suiza Industrial QSI, in Peru, Carlos Komatsudani, declared, according to El Comercio de Lima, that Peruvian exports of blueberries will reach the 24.000 tons the 2018, displacing Argentina as the second largest exporter of blueberries worldwide.
The expectations for the future of blueberry production in Peru are high, according to the QSI executive, and stated that "The main areas of blueberry cultivation for export are found on the coast of the country. The challenge for Peru to achieve sustained growth is to adapt this crop to each production area, most of which have conditions that limit the cultivation".
The main destination international market for Peruvian blueberry exports continues to be the United States, followed by England, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands in Europe, and Costa Rica and El Salvador in the Latin American continent.
Peru seeks to maintain its sustained growth and allow it to displace Argentina as the second world exporter of blueberries.
The current volumes of Peruvian exports reach 16.000 tons on average and President Kuczynski's trip to China is expected to result in the opening of that country as a destination market for Peruvian blueberry exports.
The executive of QSI stressed that Peru, to achieve the goals indicated in the technical aspect, should increase the development of capabilities and solutions aimed at overcoming the main problems and difficulties of the cultivation of cranberry.
The Peruvian blueberry industry is relatively young and has around 2500 hectares planted today. Their growth has been rapid and they intend to grow at a range of 1000 hectares per year, which may place Peru in the medium term, as one of the world's leading producers and exporters of blueberries.
Peru has not only proposed ambitious goals in terms of production volumes, or the amount of hectares planted, it has also proposed to diversify its marketing, exploring new markets for the destination of its fruit. China is an example of this.
