Chile is betting on Morocco to open up a market for its fresh fruit in North Africa
Cherries and kiwis will be among the Chilean products showcased at the first business matchmaking event organized by ProChile in North Africa. The event, taking place in Rabat, Morocco, will bring together 16 Chilean companies with 30 importers from 13 countries, including Morocco, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The agenda includes more than 65 business meetings.
This activity opens a new front in Chile's export diversification strategy. According to ProChile's Director General, Ignacio Fernández, African demand for Chilean food products has more than doubled in the last five years, reaching US$450 million in 2025, and still offers room for further growth.
In this context, Morocco began to solidify its position as a key element on the Chilean agenda. The country offers a market with its own potential and, at the same time, a base from which to explore other destinations in North Africa and the Middle East.
From Frutas de Chile, the initiative is also presented as a pioneering movement. Iván Marambio, president of the trade association, stated: “Chile’s commercial history has been based on being pioneers worldwide, and today we want to lead a new milestone by being the first to open African markets for the export of fresh fruit.”

Marambio added: “We have identified Morocco as an ideal platform to begin with: a country with high fruit consumption, a significant population, and a booming tourism sector, making it the perfect strategic starting point to embark on this new growth path for Chilean fruit. We are eager to participate in this public-private tour to Morocco, where we hope to hold discussions that will allow us to move forward.”
Furthermore, the agenda is not limited to the business roundtable in Rabat. The itinerary includes meetings, visits, and other opportunities to connect with local stakeholders, in a dynamic that combines market research with a more technical and sector-specific perspective.
In that regard, during the 12th edition of Agrotrade & Agronight Chile 2026, held on June 4th, the Chilean Nursery Association (AGV) indicated that it will also participate in the XLIII International Blueberries Seminar Morocco 2026 and invited others to join this event organized by Blueberries Consulting in Tangier. Participation is part of a roadmap that will combine meetings, visits, and opportunities for technical and commercial networking for participating companies.
