Chile: Cranberry crops continue with some delay

The Committee of Cranberries of Chile informed through its last Crop Report that the harvests continue with certain delay, particularly in the zones north and center north of the country.

In them, the peak of collection has occurred one to two weeks later in relation to previous seasons. This is how the total shipments to date are still below the 2014 / 15 campaign.

However, and according to the information, it is expected that this delay will be shortened as the season progresses. It is estimated that from the Region of O'Higgins (VI Region) to the south, the date of collections will be adjusted to that of an average season.

Figures recorded in the report - prepared by iQonsulting - show that until week 45 the difference is -6% compared to the previous year, with a cumulative total of 1.147 tons.

Markets

During the 45 week, the first shipping of the season was reported. This consisted of a container with 12 tons destined for the USA.

To date, the main market for the Chilean blueberry has been USA / Canada, which has received an 45% of total shipments and a volume similar to the previous campaign. Also, deliveries to the Far East are similar to last season, while the European market remains below the previous season.
