Chile: Fruit exports rise 3,7% in the period January - November 2021

During the period January-November 2021, a total of 3,24 million tons of fruit exports were registered, for a value of USD 6.480 million FOB, without considering the IVV1. With respect to the same period of the previous year, there is an increase of 3,7% in exported volume, and of 5,4% in value.

Of this total in value, 70% corresponds to fresh fruit, 20% to processed fruit (juices, oils, canned, frozen, dehydrated), and 10% to dried fruits (walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, among others), as indicated by the Odepa report.

Fresh fruit reaches sales of 2,49 million tons, equivalent to USD 4.508 million FOB during the period January-November 2021. These exports register an increase in volume of 2,4%, and in value of 2,1% compared to same period of the previous year.

The main species exported in the period of analysis in this group were cherry, which registers a volume of 268 thousand tons, equivalent to USD 1.205 million FOB, showing an increase of 79% in volume and 21% in value, compared to the same period of the previous year, mostly destined for China (concentrating 90% of the total value of cherry shipments).

Table grapes follow in importance, registering 522 thousand tons equivalent to USD 929 million FOB, registering a decrease of -13% in volume and -9% in value in relation to the same period of the previous year, and with shipments mainly to the United States. .US (47%) and China (15%).

In third place are apples, with 636.600 tons equivalent to USD 608,5 million FOB, registering a decrease in shipments of -2,5% in volume and an increase of 4,5% in value, compared to the same period of the year. previous year, and where the main buyers are Colombia (12%), USA (10%), Netherlands (8,3%) and India (7,8%).

And in fourth place are blueberries, with sales of 98 thousand tons, equivalent to USD 501 million FOB, shipped mainly to the US (49%), the Netherlands (18%) and the United Kingdom (9%).

These four species, together with kiwi and plum (both species correspond to the fifth and sixth fruit trees with the highest exports for the period of analysis) account for 82% of the total value of fresh fruit exported in the period analyzed.

Regarding nuts, these reached sales of 136 thousand tons equivalent to USD 631 million FOB during the period January-November 2021. In comparison with the same period of the year 2020, these values ​​represent an increase of 16,3% in volume and 14,6% in value.

The main exported product in terms of value is the walnut in shell, which registers sales of 80.800 tons and USD 227 million FOB, representing 36% of the total value of dried fruit shipments.

The main destination was India (26%), then Turkey (21%), and Italy (10%). The second product that stands out in exports is the shelled walnut, registering sales of 30.300 tons, and USD 218,8 million FOB, representing 22% of the total shipments of nuts, mainly destined for Germany (21%), Italy (12 %) and Spain (11,9%).

And in third place is the shelled hazelnut, representing 22% of the total exports of nuts for the period, and registering sales of 15.100 tons and USD 137,4 million FOB, with shipments to Italy (37%), Germany (33 %) and Canada (15%).

Finally, processed fruits reached sales of 609 thousand tons equivalent to USD 1.342 million FOB during the period January-November 2021, which represents an increase in exports of 6,5% in volume and 13,5% in value, in comparison with the same period of the previous year.

In order of importance by sales, the category with the highest representation in value in the analysis period is frozen (35%), then dehydrated (25%), followed by canned goods (18%) and juices (17,7%), and finally there are the oils (4%). In comparison with the same period of the previous year, the increases in value of juices (53%) and frozen (15%) stand out.

In each category, the following stand out for their higher sales:

Frozen: blueberries, strawberries and raspberries with sales of USD 138,2 million, USD 133,4 million FOB and 76 million FOB respectively, with shipments mainly to the US, Australia, Canada and Japan.

Dehydrated: plum and raisins, with sales of USD 154,8 million and 115,9 million FOB respectively. There are several purchasing countries for these products, highlighting Mexico, Poland and the United Kingdom in the first case, and in the second the Netherlands, the United States and Peru.

Preserves: peaches and apples, reaching sales of USD 72,5 million and USD 52,5 million FOB respectively, sent preferably to Mexico and the United States.

Juices: of apples and grapes, with sales of USD 95,5 million and USD 74 million FOB respectively. The main buyers are the US and Japan.

Accept: olive, with sales of USD 46,3 million, and with strong shipments to the US (45%) and Brazil (41%)
