Chile: The export of fruit grows an 3,4% until August

The cumulative volume of Chilean fruit exports reached 2.109.774 tons in August, which represented an 3,4% more compared to the same period of 2014, informed the Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies (ODEPA).

However, the total meant a decrease of 11% in relation to the exported in 2013 in the same period, warned the PASO. In this regard, he pointed out that the main decreases were observed in avocados and apples, with an 68% and an 22,9%, respectively.

On the contrary, he pointed out that the greatest increases in fresh fruits are produced in kiwis and plums and, among nuts, in walnuts in shell.

According to the report, exports that are not made in the "firm" mode (usually fruit exports) can be adjusted according to the Value Change Report (IVV), which affects each monthly statement.

In this regard, PASO assured that "despite completing eight months of the end of the 2014 year, IVV adjustments still take place that year". Therefore, considering that, the total value exported to August of 2015 reaches 3.452 million dollars, that is, an 3,5% below the value registered the previous year.

The report also warns that with the exception of blueberries and citrus fruits "it is estimated that the average prices in dollars of fresh fruits are lower in 2015 compared to those of 2014". The opposite is observed with nuts, where only nuts are lower, coinciding with the strong increase in exports, says PASO.

The United States (62%) continued to lead as the main destination for Chilean fruit exports, followed by China (7%) and the Netherlands (11%).
