Chile registers increase in shipments of fresh fruit so far in the 2020-2021 season

Between September 1 and October 26, 2020, Chile sent 15.375.013 boxes of fresh fruits to different markets around the world, according to statistical information from the Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile AG (Asoex). Thus, so far in the 2020-2021 fruit season, the country registered a 2,85% increase in shipments compared to the same period of the previous year.

Of the total exported, 34,9% went to the United States, 34% Europe, and 23,4% was sent to Latin America. For its part, Asia accounted for 6,3% of the total sent to the world, Canada 1,3% and the Middle East 0,1%.

Regarding species, avocados lead shipments with 37,2% of the total volumes shipped to date, followed by mandarins 26,5%, apples 16%, oranges 6,4%, Kiwis 4,3%, lemons 3,8%, blueberries 3,5%, pears 1,5% and grapefruit 0,6%, among other fruits.

As for cherries, 481 boxes have been sent to China to date. It should be noted that Chile is the main supplier of fresh cherries, especially during the Chinese New Year, which will be celebrated on February 21, 2021.

As indicated by SimFRUIT, during the 2019-2020 season, Chile sent 228.586 tons of cherries to the world to the world, with an increase of 27% compared to the previous period. Of that volume, 207.352 tons were destined for China.
