Chile ends peak weeks of blueberry exports: More than 103 thousand tons of this super fruit have been shipped to the world

According to the Crop Report of the Chilean Blueberry Committee of ASOEX, exports for week 07 reached 3.800 tons, thus marking the end of the peak weeks of shipments from Chile, and an accumulated to date of 103.449 tons, 1,6, 2018% less than in 19/5. The report also highlights that as of week XNUMX, the outputs of late production from Chile have been under the estimate, as well as under the shipments of the last two seasons.

The reasons? The Committee highlights among the reasons for the current scenario: ”the markets, the complex situation in China as a result of the Coronavirus and the results obtained in North America and Europe in the peak period due to the increase in supply from the Southern Hemisphere; which resulted, in some cases, in ending the season for fresh and diverting fruit to frozen. On the other hand, the climatic conditions, especially the rains of week 6, affected the southern part of the country, reducing the exportable supply, as well as the high temperatures that had an impact on a concentration in the crops, ending the season early ", says the entity. in the report.

Better markets for the end of the season

Notwithstanding the foregoing, the Committee indicates that markets, with the exception of China, are more favorable at this time and good performance is expected for the last part of the Chilean season.

It also emphasizes that crops and exports will continue to advance in the southern zone. “At least 5 weeks of export are still projected, with volumes down, but encouraged by the clearer market and by the projection of a mild climate and without rain at least in the next 10 days,” notes the Committee.
