China boosts blueberry production with a $205 million investment
Shenzhen Noposion International Investment Co. Ltd. recently announced an ambitious financial and expansion plan that reinforces its growth strategy in the blueberry sector, one of the fastest-growing crops in China's fresh produce market. The company reported that it plans to issue Class A shares to selected investors with the goal of raising up to 1.450 billion yuan (approximately US$205 million). After deducting issuance-related expenses, the proceeds will be primarily used to expand its blueberry production base, construct an international berry research and development (R&D) center, and strengthen its working capital.
According to the official announcement, the blueberry base expansion project will receive the majority of the investment, with a total estimated budget of 1.221 billion yuan (US$173 million), of which 1.100 billion yuan (US$156 million) will come directly from raised funds. This plan includes the establishment of a new blueberry plantation in Yunnan Province, which will add approximately 13.500 mu (about 900 hectares) to the company's cultivated area. The construction period for this new base is planned to be two years.
In parallel, Noposion will invest 150 million yuan (US$21 million) in the creation of an international berry research and development center. This project, with a three-year construction timeline, will primarily focus on developing new varieties of blueberries and other berries, as well as improving productivity, quality, and adaptation to different climatic conditions. The company believes that strengthening its R&D capabilities will be key to maintaining its competitiveness in an increasingly demanding market focused on differentiated products.
From agrochemicals to fresh produce
Founded in 1999, Noposion is traditionally known as one of China's leading companies in the research, development, production, and marketing of pesticide formulations. However, in recent years it has accelerated its diversification into the fresh produce sector, driven by changing consumer habits and the growing demand for healthier, higher-value foods.
In this process, the company established nearly 10.000 mu (667 hectares) of pitahaya and yellow pitahaya plantations in Sanya, Hainan Province, as well as a similar area of macadamia orchards in Guiping, Guangxi Province. However, while these specialized crops did not achieve the expected yield, blueberries quickly became Noposion's primary growth driver. The company began developing blueberry plantations in Yunnan in 2021 and has since experienced rapid expansion.

Market leadership and financial growth
In the 2024/25 season, Noposion's blueberry harvestable area reached 280.000 mu (18.667 hectares), generating over 2.000 billion yuan (US$283 million) in sales and positioning the company as one of China's largest blueberry sellers. For the 2025/26 season, the harvestable area is expected to increase to approximately 360.000 mu (24.000 hectares). With new projects underway, the company's total blueberry cultivation area will expand to 495.000 mu (33.000 hectares).
As of September 2025, Noposion's cumulative investment in the blueberry sector exceeded 4.000 billion yuan (US$566 million). The company has established more than 60 farms and over 40 cold chain processing centers in more than ten regions of Yunnan, including Honghe, Wenshan, Chuxiong, Pu'er, Baoshan, Dehong, Dali, and Xishuangbanna.

In the commercial sphere, consumer-oriented brands like Imberry and Midielan are already present in channels such as Sam's Club, JD.com, Olé, and 7Fresh, where shopping centers account for between 20% and 30% of total sales. Furthermore, the company is expanding its presence in smaller cities and exports Imberry blueberries to more than 20 countries. In addition, a plantation is being developed on the Bolaven Plateau in southern Laos, with production expected to begin next year.
The financial results confirm this transformation. In the third quarter of 2025, Noposion recorded operating revenues of 4.086 billion yuan (US$578 million). The fresh produce segment grew by 19% year-on-year, reaching 1.808 billion yuan (US$256 million) and accounting for 49,1% of total revenue, significantly outperforming traditional businesses such as insecticides, which contributed 18,7%. With this development, Noposion is consolidating its transition from an agrochemical company to a key player in the high-value fresh fruit industry.
