Chile's foreign trade grows 40% between January and October 2021

Between January and October 2021, Chile's commercial exchange reached US $ 150.252 million, achieving a growth of 40% compared to the same period of 2020, according to a report prepared by the Undersecretariat of International Economic Relations (SUBREI) with figures of the Central Bank.

Exports recorded operations for US $ 76.427 million, surpassing by 28% the shipments of the same period of 2020. In addition, with this value as of October, the country's shipments exceed 4% of everything exported in 2020, marking at the same time a record of greater value since there is a record. In the period, exports registered increases in all its major categories, mineral shipments (US $ 47.657 million; + 44%), agricultural shipments (US $ 5.777 million; + 8%) and foreign sales of industrial products (US $ 22.293 million; + 9%).

"The exportable supply in all its categories is exceeding the pre-pandemic levels, highlighting the amounts in shipments of services, agricultural food and various manufactures, making clear the importance of the network of 30 commercial agreements in the internationalization of the different innovations and developments, which today have an expanded market of more than 5.000 million consumers. In this period 95% of our shipments went to countries with which Chile has FTAs ​​”, said Undersecretary Rodrigo Yáñez.

Copper shipments reached a record figure of US $ 43.332 million, an increase of 45% compared to 2020, which represents 57% of the country's shipments. In the period, the international price of copper averaged US $ 4,19 per pound, 56% higher than the average for the same period of 2020 (US $ 2,69 per pound).

For their part, non-copper exports are recovering to pre-pandemic levels, rising to US $ 33.096 million, marking an increase of 12% compared to the same period in 2020. More than 600 different products and services reach a record value in their sales in 2021. foreign sales, including iron, fresh cherries, salmon fillets, lithium carbonates, fresh kiwis, shelled hazelnuts, frozen strawberries, fresh organic blueberries, bottled Carmenère wine, among others.

Undersecretary Rodrigo Yáñez also highlighted that in the first 10 months of 2021, exports of services totaled US $ 1.127 million, scoring an increase of 29% compared to the same period in 2020 and incidentally this figure is already 5% higher than everything else. exported in 2020 (US $ 1.075 million).

"The rise in exports of services is led by ICTs that accumulate sales abroad for US $ 434 million, an amount that reflects an increase of US $ 190 million compared to the same period of 2020, also on the rise are logistics and financial services , advertising, animation, market research, consulting, certification and research and development. 99% of the country's services exports go to countries with FTAs, realizing the importance of these instruments in the internationalization of our entrepreneurs, ”said the authority.

Imports, on the other hand, recorded operations for US $ 73.825 million, marking an increase of 54% compared to the same period in 2020 and exceeding by 25% everything imported during 2020. The three main categories recorded the highest values ​​since that there is a record: consumer goods (US $ 22.288 million; + 72%), intermediate goods (US $ 36.824 million; + 51%), capital goods (US $ 14.712 million; + 38%).

In the first 10 months of 2021, more than 1900 products have registered record values ​​in their internationalization to the country, among them cell phones, cars, trucks, computers, televisions, corn, vaccines, beef, medicines, tractors, pcr reagents stand out. , tablets, electric converters, articles for physical culture, fruit sorting machines, protein concentrates, swivel seats, fiber optic cables, drills, toothpastes, tiles, payment points, motorcycles, gloves and catheters.
