New Binational Council of the Peru-United States Cranberry is created
In order to promote cooperation, trade and investment in the blueberry export sector, the creation of the First Binational Blueberry Council between the United States and Peru (USPBC) was announced, reported the Peruvian Senasa through their website.
The president of the Association of Producers of Blueberries of Peru (ProArandanos) and co-president of USPBC, Miguel Bentin, said he hoped that this council would be able to play an important role in improving bilateral trade between both countries.
"Bilateral trade will be improved by supporting the forms of import and export of blueberries, from Peru to the United States, and vice versa"He said.
The Board is made up of the Naturipe, Driscoll's, Camposol, Talsa, Hortifrut and ProArandanos de Perú Companies.
Bentin said that this Council will be presented during the visit to Lima of the Secretary of Agriculture of the United States, Thomas Vilsack, who is leading a commercial delegation aimed at expanding opportunities for US agricultural businesses.
He added that this is an initiative of the private entrepreneurs of both countries that, in synergy with the agreements of the Peruvian and North American governments, will allow obtaining the necessary permits to create new opportunities for access to markets.
With a per capita consumption of one kilogram of blueberries per year, the United States is a strategic market for Peruvian blueberries that has become one of the stars of agroexports with a growth of more than 227% at the close of the 2015 and for this 2016 it is expected to reach a growth higher than 100%.
