Expectations are growing for the blueberry industry meeting in Guadalajara.

The international context in which it is taking place, marked by the tariff war and climate impact, makes this event of great interest to producers, entrepreneurs, and various stakeholders involved in the Mexican blueberry industry and the agricultural export industry in general.

In addition to providing an in-depth analysis of the commercial situation of the Mexican industry and its positioning, primarily in the US market, to which it sources almost all of its production, the two-day program is very engaging and strikes a good balance between agronomic or technical aspects and commercial or market-related aspects. On the first day, Wednesday 28th, after the inauguration by the director of Blueberries Consulting, Jorge Esquivel and the Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER), Eduardo Ron Ramos, a panel discussion will be held, with the participation of the president of Aneberries, Miguel Curiel; the CEO of Hortifrut México, Rigoberto Guerrero; the CEO of Berries Paradise, César Ortiz; the Director of Finance of North Bay Produce, Roberto Sámano; and the General Director of Agrovision México, Rodrigo Orozco. The main topics to be discussed will be: “The blueberry industry: current status, strategies, and trends”, which ensures great debate, due to the political and commercial scenario in which Mexico finds itself, the reality of the international blueberry market and the local productive reality, among other variables.

Immediately after, José Luis Bustamante, president of Planasa Mexico and former president of Aneberries, will take the stage to give his talk. “Update on the Mexican Berry Market: Production, Marketing, and Genetics”, where the analysis will surely be extended to other berries and their productive and commercial behavior.

After the mid-morning coffee break and the opportunity to visit the dozens of stands of the most diverse companies participating in the event, it will be the turn of specialist Colin Fain, founder of Agronometrics, who will put the hard data on the table in his talk. “Data Analysis from Recent Seasons: Mexico's Opportunities in the Global Blueberry Market”, a moment that will probably be one of the most irrefutable, since the data, numbers and figures show the pure and hard reality of the activity.

Then, the director of Blueberries Consulting and international consultant, Jorge Esquivel, will take the stage to give his talk. “Modern Blueberry Production: Data Analysis and Strategies”, highlighting the high level of modern industry, access to diverse and varied digital measurement tools, and the correct reading and interpretation of data on both crop performance and markets. Closing the morning session with a presentation “Blueberry production in Mexico: Irrigation, substrates, varieties, and fruit quality”, by the director of BETABLUE, Eduardo Betancourt.

The program continues in the afternoon with other interesting agronomic and commercial topics, presented by renowned Mexican and international specialists, such as David Bryla, a specialist from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and Karen Ruiz, a sales representative from Advanced Berry Breeding (ABB).

Second Panel

In addition to a second Conversation Panel that will address the “Strategic planning based on market demands: What do consumers want?, which will be composed of Qima Produce CEO Ignacio Santibáñez; Hortifrut Mexico's commercial director Herika Sainz; Driscoll's Mexico's quality manager Mario De la Cruz; and Fruits Giddings general manager Patricio Cortés.

The prestigious professors and researchers, Jorge Retamales, close the first day with his talk. “Use of calcium, boron, and silicon in blueberries” and Daniel Díaz, with his presentation “Use of growth regulators in blueberries: Objectives and strategies.”

Second day

The day on Thursday 29th begins with the commercial manager of Fall Creek Mexico, Ricardo Márquez, who will give a complete analysis of the blueberry industry in his presentation. “Update of the blueberry market in Mexico: production, marketing and genetics”, in which this specialist not only presents and explains the local reality, but also shows the global context of the industry with interesting data, which allows for more accurate future projections and better activity planning.

The cultivation

Then the experienced researchers and specialists, Prometeo Sánchez, stand out with his talk “Use of biocomposites for stress management in blueberries”; Concepción Rodríguez, with her presentation “Effective rotational strategy for managing thrips in blueberries and other berries” and Professor Ángel Rebollar, with his talk “Integrated Management Strategies for Wood Fungi and Root and Crown Diseases in Blueberries” who will address the cultivation from different aspects in its various management and needs, such as nutritional, health, growth, care, and production of competitive quality in the market.
