Electronic datalogger allows to register variables of products in transit

Chile is recognized as an agri-food power, which is determined because many of its products are destined to numerous markets and one of the main shipping routes is maritime, which can take up to 45 days to reach the port of destination.
Taking this reality into account and with the support of the Foundation for Agrarian Innovation (FIA), the company CtraX successfully developed an electronic datalogger with a memory that allows the recording of environmental variables such as temperature, relative humidity, CO2, O2 and other parameters. such as ozone and ethylene, inside the containers that transport fruits and vegetables, allowing to see later in what conditions the product traveled.
It is a small and autonomous equipment so it is enough to turn it on and install it in the container together with the products before closing it. From that moment on, the necessary measurements can be programmed.
Portalfruticola.com talked with Alejandra Valdés, director of operations and marketing of the company, who explained that the measurements made by the datalogger are stored in the internal memory, and once the computer reaches its destination it is connected by a USB cable to a computer with software, which is downloaded on the company's website where the information is obtained in graphics that allows to see how the route was in the container.
"For exporters it is a tool that allows to clarify what has happened during the journey, so that in business decisions can have a great impact"he said.
He added that the datalogger can be of great help to know if it is necessary to advance the sale of the fruit at destination, or on the contrary if it can be stored for a longer time, verifying if the atmosphere in which it traveled was adequate.
"In the matter of litigation can also be of great help, because with that you can discard or affirm if there were flaws in the atmosphere", Valdés said.
In addition, he indicated that the use of the datalogger offers information on which atmospheric conditions are more appropriate or which company provides the best service, which in the long run can also have an impact as a “country image”.
The equipment allows the sensors to be customized and the number of measurements can be adapted according to the requirements of each client.
As for product marketing, Valdés said they already have teams committed this season and expect to market it in bulk for the next campaign.
"We aspire to cover Peru, but in principle we would be oriented to national companies"Pointed.
At this time the datalogger has a value of USD 300, but from the company they expect it to decrease considerably with a massive production.
