Different investigations develop specific mycorrhizas for cranberry with good results

'Mycorrhiza, a nutritional optimization tool' has been the only round table of the III Technical Conference on Blueberry Cultivation of Huelva organized by the Delegation in Huelva of the Official College of Agricultural Technical Engineers of Western Andalusia, Coitand. The Coitand delegate in Huelva, Julio Volante, moderated the table in which representatives of various companies that have developed specific research on this subject participated, such as Alberto Bago, CSIC scientist and head of Kimitec; the head of Symborg in Spain and Portugal, Francisco García; and the director of R & D & i of AMC Chemical & Trichodex, Khalid Akdi Elaroussi.

The microbiologist Alberto Bago has been researching mycorrhizas for 25 for years and together with a research team has developed an in vitro mycorrhiza technique, a system that is directly related to the ericoid mycorrhizae that are directly linked to the blueberry plant.

As Bago himself has explained mycorrhizae are a series of fungi and other terrestrial agents that are found next to the roots of plants. He stressed how complicated it is to achieve collaboration or union between fungi and plants so that they can work together to improve production. He also stressed that "the plant needs more than nutrients, needs stability and strength to be prepared to face any setbacks that may come".

The advantage of in vitro mycorrhiza, of the ericoid type, is that it is easy to apply as it is a gel that is incorporated with irrigation and does not contain insoluble layers. His signature has a fungus adapted to blueberry, with a certificate of purity and whose colonization time is shorter. Among other qualities, it reinvigorates the plant, vegetative growth is greater, advances production and improves post-harvest.

The patent presented by Francisco García is a mycorrhiza of the endomycorrhizas group that is characterized by exploring a greater surface of soil, in addition the fungus acts from outside the plant and adapts to the extensive culture. The field trials have given results as in 11 months crops has achieved an average production of blueberry of 3,5 kilos per tree.

The Symborg tool is associated with a young root and is applied after pruning or at the beginning of flowering.

Khalid Akdi Elaroussi has exposed the subject of mycorrhiza as the harmony that must be achieved in the different elements that make up the group composed of the plant, the soil and the microorganisms that live in it. He has insisted that it is essential "a balanced fertilization to achieve a good job of the whole team"Which make up the three elements previously indicated.

Sanitary applications

Another of the technical presentations of the Conference has been developed by the technical director of Pulverizantes Fede, Roberto Grau, who has spoken about the 'Efficacy of phytosanitary applications'.

adh_roberto-grau-400x300-minThe technician has explained in detail the different systems and management modes of the applications in the field as well as the pros and cons they entail. He highlighted that uniformity in treatments is one of the keys to achieving efficiency, as well as adapting the mechanical process to each of the crops depending on the environment and the objective.

The III Day of the Blueberry of Huelva has concluded after a good reception by the technicians and collegiate that have completed the capacity of the building Alvaro Alonso Barba of the Huelva University headquarters in La Rábida.
