USA UU is the largest importer of Argentine blueberries

Exhibitors and visitors from different parts of the world gathered to share the latest news and trends in the production of blueberries in the framework of the IBM SUMMIT 2016.
The welcoming words of the meeting were in charge of the President of the International Blueberry Organization (IBO), Andrés Armstrong, who celebrated that the Convention Center has been full. He also highlighted the quality of the city as a recipient of meeting tourism and predicted three very productive days. They also welcomed Carlos Stabile, president of the Argentine Committee of Blueberries, and Marta Betancur, head of UPERFRUY, the Uruguayan blueberry committee, co-organizers of the event.
The inaugural conference, in charge of the pioneering English producer Dave Brazelton, addressed the issue of the production and demand of blueberries globally. Among the attendees were the Entre Ríos Minister of Production, Carlos Scheppens, and the Undersecretary of Production of the Municipality of Concordia, Marcos Follonier.
United States took center stage
The consumption of blueberries in the USA UU it has increased sixfold in the last twenty years. Only in that country, 1995 consumed 96.000 tons of blueberries per year, and in 2015, that consumption was 540.000 tons per year. According to specialists, no fruit grew as much in the world as the production of blueberries.
The United States is the main importer of Argentine blueberry production, together with Canada and the main Asian countries.
Numbers of the IBO SUMMIT 2016 Congress
During the first day there were 400 attendees from countries such as Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, the United States, Mexico, Canada, Spain, Peru, Colombia, New Zealand, England, and Italy, among others. During the event there are 20 speakers from Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Peru, Spain, the United States and England and 22 is present as a first line international as main sponsors.
«We have really managed to bring together the main actors, producers and influential businessmen in the sector who decide and learn about the future of blueberry production», assured Omar Chiarello, president of the Association of Producers of Blueberries of the Mesopotamia Argentina, APAMA, host entity.
