The Spanish minister defends Spanish imports of Moroccan agri-food products.

The debate began when PP senator Lorena Guerra questioned what Morocco knows about the Spanish government's ability to allow "unfair competition" from Moroccan agricultural products.

El Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food from Spain, louis planes, defended controls on the country's food imports on Tuesday, responding to criticism from the Popular Party (PP) for what they called "unfair competition" from Morocco.

During a parliamentary session, the PP senator Lorena Guerra He asked the minister what measures the government is taking to prevent unfair competition in food imports. He specifically mentioned Morocco, accusing it of benefiting from "permitted unfair competition" in its exports to Spain.

Guerra asked Planas directly: "What do you have with Morocco or what does that country know about this government that makes you so permissive?"

Planas responded harshly, stating that the PP "is following Vox's script." He added: "They're trying to position Vox to their left."

Planas also reminded legislators that all agricultural products entering the European Union are subject to strict border controls. "No agricultural product enters the European Union without due control," he stated.

He criticized Guerra for questioning the professionalism of the public officials who carry out these controls.

Morocco is one of Spain's main trading partners in the agricultural sector, exporting fruits, vegetables, seafood, and some processed foods. Spanish supermarkets depend on these products.  imports, especially during the winter months when local production is lower.

All products entering Spain from Morocco are subject to strict European Union regulations, including health and quality controls at Border Inspection Points (BIPs), the Spanish minister reported.

Despite these safeguards, Moroccan imports have become a source of political tension in Spain. The Popular Party has accused Morocco of creating unfair competition for Spanish farmers, especially in the fruit and vegetable sector.
