"The Chilean Seminar will focus on the recovery of the blueberry industry."

In the crowded International Blueberry Seminar The event held in Lima featured the presence of many Chileans, including producers, technicians, and businesspeople, all very interested in the keys to explaining the success of the Peruvian blueberry industry, which is now the absolute leader in exports of the fruit to various markets around the world.
The Lima meeting demonstrated the immense versatility of the blueberry crop, allowing it to be grown in different soil types and under different climatic conditions. This is why Peruvian producers have developed various strategies to achieve highly productive plants with competitive-quality fruit for the demanding international consumer market.
Current market
The other element that the different actors in the industry were able to confirm in the various exhibitions, talks and discussion panels is that the blueberry market is not only still valid, but that the demand for the fruit continues to increase on all continents, so the blueberry business is in full swing, accompanied by new genetics that allow us to offer a fruit of better size, better firmness and condition upon arrival to the final consumer.
The International Blueberry Seminar in Lima celebrated its 10th anniversary, almost the same as the development of the Peruvian blueberry industry, so it has been an important factor in its success. The same can be said of Mexico and Morocco, where this event has also been crucial for both industries.
Chile, current situation and projections
The case of Chile is different, where the reality is different, more skeptical and far removed from the knowledge of researchers and science. The Chilean blueberry industry was slow to listen to specialists advising of an urgent varietal replacement, thinking they were simply trying to sell them plants. Or they relied on their long-standing reputation for market preference. As a result, they are very close to exiting the market if they continue on this path.
Chilean Seminar
"I believe the Chilean Seminar will focus on the recovery of the blueberry industry," emphatically asserts a renowned Chilean producer and exporter, who transitioned early to producing closed varieties in a "club business" model.
"We've made many mistakes and in some cases, we've been guilty of arrogance," he comments, explaining that the Chilean industry's long history and expertise led them to become complacent and react late to varietal changes and the innovation of new management systems and the use of technologies.
“We have a chance to recover, but we have to do things right,” comments another producer. “We should remove those who are only interested in kilos from the market,” he warns, adding, “I've seen berries in Peru that are three times larger than our best.”
El 35th International Blueberry Seminar from Thursday April 10 At the Monticello Conference Center in Chile, the event will effectively focus on the opportunities for recovery of the Chilean blueberry industry based on new genetics and the application of cutting-edge technology, but above all, supported by good agricultural practices.
