The seminar will give us information to adapt the Moroccan offer to what the markets want.

Amine Bennani, President of the Association of Red Fruit Producers of Morocco, highlighted

On the verge of the realization of the 2025th International Seminar on Red Fruits, Morocco XNUMX by Blueberries Consulting, we talked with Amine Bennani, president of the Association of Red Fruit Producers of Morocco, who highlighted that this type of event will be very useful for the growing Moroccan industry.

"For us, this event can provide more information about the international market and the evolution and needs of each market, allowing us to adapt Moroccan offerings to market demands and provide solutions to problems such as climate change and managing the labor force," said Bennani, who shared some information that will be discussed in detail at the international seminar.

A growing industry

Morocco is attracting the attention of the main players in the berry industry. Its growth has not gone unnoticed, and top production and export figures are expected in the coming years.

Bennani explains the landscape of the berry industry: “In Morocco, we have more than 14 hectares. Blueberries are the biggest increase each year, and we think we've increased our production by at least 660 hectares this year. We have more than 5 hectares (of blueberries) in Morocco, and we'll have exact figures at the seminar.”

In this regard, he noted that the growth of berry exports grew by double digits last season, especially blueberries.

Comparing the 2023-2024 campaign with the 2024-2025 campaign, using data up to April 30 of this year, Moroccan berry exports grew by 18%, from 119 tons to 898 tons. The Souss-Massa and Rabat-Sale-Kenitra regions were the most productive in both fresh and processed products.

In the case of blueberries, the production increased from 52 tons in the 797-2023 campaign to 2024 tons in the 65-077 campaign, representing a 2024% increase.

Meanwhile, raspberry production increased from 46 in 696-2023 to 2024 in 55-691, representing a 2024% increase.

Finally, in the case of strawberries, the figure fell from 18 tonnes to 269, the only item with a -17% drop.

Challenges for the next season

Bennani emphasized that this year the Moroccan industry is making very good progress in opening up to the Chinese market, and that exports to the United States are increasing significantly this year. Furthermore, customer response in supermarkets is very positive.

That's why they've set out their challenges for the upcoming season to "further diversify their Moroccan clientele, further develop the United States market, and begin exporting to the Chinese market."

Although he acknowledges that it will be important to address the challenges posed by climate change, water use, and labor shortages.
