Spain increased cherry exports by 150% and blueberries by 132% in June

The exported volume of fresh fruits and vegetables increased by 14% in June, reaching 1,7 million tons, with very important increases for cherry (24.140 t, +150%), blueberry 22.246 t (+ 132%) , strawberry (16.841 t, +54%) or watermelon (266.597 t, +30%).

The value of Spanish fruit and vegetable exports grew 17% compared to June 2020, when adding income of 1.291 millones de euros, as highlighted in a statement by sources from the Fepex federation.

They have highlighted that this strong increase in fruit and vegetable exports in June "compensates for the fall in March and April caused by the storm Filomena."

While fruit exports rose 22% in June (846.283 t), that of fresh vegetables was reduced by 4%.

Fepex has highlighted the main increases in shipments, including carrots (28.369 t, +27%); plum (15.530 t, +20%); pepper (38.616 t, +13%); tomato (25.095 tons, + 8%); and nectarine (76.560 t, +13%).

The latest Foreign Trade report released by the Secretary of State for Trade estimated at 11.394,1 millones de euros the value of fruit, vegetable and legume exports accumulated in the first half of 2021, 3% more than the same period in 2020.

Imports of fruit and vegetable products reached 3.090,8 million euros, 2,7% less than in the first half of 2020.
