Spain: Freshuelva indicates that the campaign is at 10% and expects to end with some 280.000 tons

In the province there is a total of 11.740 hectares planted with red fruits, of which 6.167 correspond to strawberries, 3.532 to blueberries, 2.070 to raspberries and 140 to blackberries.

The Huelva Association of Strawberry Producers and Exporters, Freshuelva, has indicated that the campaign of this fruit in the province is currently "about 10 percent" of the expected volume, which it estimates end with around 280.000 or 290.000 of production and marketing.

This has been indicated to Europa Press by its manager, Rafael Dominguez, who pointed out that in the first part of the campaign with "the cold nights of December and January there has been little fruit", since he has highlighted that it "has had good characteristics", which is why it has shown "happy" because "it has reached the markets very well and has been widely accepted."

With regard to prices at origin, he underlined that "They have been decreasing, as the production volume has increased", although "at specific and designated moments such as Valentine's Day, demand has increased" so "there have been better prices", while at the same time he has stressed that "the evolution will have to be analyzed."

Likewise, Domínguez has pointed out that the markets "have behaved well" so far "without any abnormal situation", as well as has highlighted that There have been no problems "with the United Kingdom, neither administrative nor of any other nature", in a year "in which they are completely outside the European Union", so "nothing leads us to think that there may be any reluctance regarding Huelva berries."

At this point, he clarified that "the issue is the fairly significant competition that exists with third countries" with which "it could have trade agreements", so there is "greater competition." As for the rest of the red fruit crops, he has highlighted that currently they also continue in campaign raspberry and blueberry, although the latter "in small quantities" as it is "an early variety" that "is increasingly becoming more and more popular", so "it is already being marketed in January and February, despite the fact that its campaign "usually begins at the end of March".

«It is already in the markets, although in tough competition with other countries that are in spring right now and have more tonnage, such as Chile or Peru.", he pointed out about the blueberry, while adding that the raspberry began to be harvested between October and November with "that of the autumn campaign" and, although "now there is less volume", the production "will rise again in the month of March". Specifically, this is 25 percent of the total volume of the campaign.

On the other hand, he explained "some varieties of (mora), although in small quantities", just as he has clarified that in the one with the least tonnage in the province, since "it is the one with the fewest hectares."

Specifically, Domínguez explained that in the province of Huelva there is a total of 11.740 hectares planted with red fruits, of which 6.167 correspond to strawberries, 3.532 to blueberries, 2.070 to raspberries and 140 to blackberries, "with which the second berry in the province currently is the blueberry, whose campaign is expanding from January to practically July, for the cultivation of new varieties.
