Italian expert in Lobesia botrana visited our country

An intense program of activities was carried out last week by the outstanding Italian entomologist Andrea Lucchi, professor at the University of Pisa and an international expert in research and control of the Lobesia botrana, who was a few days in our country invited by the Agricultural and Livestock Service, with funding from FIA, the Cranberry Committee of Chile and the wine sector.

During his stay, Lucchi held working meetings with professionals and technicians of the National Program of Lobesia botrana of the SAG (PNLb), as well as meetings with representatives of the industry, the management and research desk. Likewise, he visited several areas of the Maule and O'Higgins regions, in field visits to blueberry orchards and vineyards.

"It is very positive to collect the experience of countries such as Italy, which has been handling the plague for many years. Visits such as that of Andrea Lucchi, who is also a specialist in the use of the sexual confusion tool, allow us to know new alternatives to face the control", Explained Grisel Monje, Executive Director of PNLb. He added that the entomologist will send a report with contributions regarding the management of the pest in Chile, with recommendations and suggestions to improve the techniques of control of the moth.
