Export of Chilean queen bees: A market that grows and develops

From 10 thousand queen bees exported in 2015, they were passed over 20 thousand in 2017. They are free of diseases and their unique genetics makes them tame and productive. Properties of the species, have generated a large market in Canada, Mexico and the European Union, which now joined Peru.

The Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG), indicates that only in the last three years have been exported more than 44.378 queen bees and 2.487 hives to support the pollination of relevant agricultural plantations.

The boom of this market is not casual. This is explained by the Minister of Agriculture, Antonio Walker. "Chile has invested many years and effort in building the level of exceptional animal and beekeeping health that we have today. The world recognizes this high sanitary standard and also the seriousness of our official institutions, key elements that allow us to export live animals and bees to the most sophisticated markets. "

In fact, thanks to the programs of prevention and control of the SAG for the main diseases of bees, today Chile is declared free of the beetle of the hive (Aethina tumida), of the Asian mite (Tropilaelaps clareae) and has low levels prevalence of American foulbrood and European foulbrood. In addition, it is the only country on the continent where bees are free of Africanization.
