The exported volume of blueberries —the second agricultural product that generates the most foreign currency for the country— reached 210.000 metric tons (MT) in the period January-October 2022, which meant a growth of 36,4% compared to the same period last year. the previous year when it reached 207.000 MT, reported the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP).

According to the entity, the value of exports totaled US$ 1.112 million in January-October, which implies an annual growth of 20,2%.

He also explained that the main destinations were United States y Netherlands, representing 52,2% and 22,3% of the total value exported so far this year, respectively.

In terms of regions, La Libertad and Lambayeque are the main blueberry exporters, achieving a joint participation of 79,5%. In addition, both regions have had significant growth in export volumes of 40,3% and 45,5%, each in relation to January-October 2021.

“Within the agricultural sector, blueberries have become a more relevant product. In 2014, when exports of this product were just beginning, they represented only 0,7% of total agricultural exports; 7 years later, in 2021, they have already reached 15,2%”, said the BCRP.
