Fresh fruit exports grow 8,3% during the first quarter of 2018

The first quarter of 2018 has been exported 1,34 million tons of fresh fruit, 8,3% over exported the 2017 and 13% over the exported the 2016 in the same period, keeping the total increase in exports of fresh fruit what goes hand in hand with the increase in the national surface.

The average price of these exports without the adjustment of the IVV *, reached USD 1,9 per kilo FOB exported. The first four-month period of 2017 reached USD 1,5 per kilo FOB exported, so this year's value is already higher than that reached at that time, and probably exceeds the value registered this year, getting closer to the USD 2,2 of the first quarter of 2016 that to date is the highest figure reported for this period.

When comparing the average prices per kilo FOB exported from almost all the fresh fruit of the January-April period of 2018 with 2017 -with the incorporation of the IVV- only up to the month of April of the respective year, an increase of 23,9% is registered.

Of the main fresh fruits exported in the period, the most important increases are registered in avocados that goes up 31% going from USD 2,06 to 2,7; kiwis up 23,4%; , moving from USD 1,02 to 1,25; Cranberries goes up 12,6% and goes from USD 4,32 to 4,87; pears up 10,9% going from USD0,89 to 0,98; nectarines that goes up 8,8% going from USD 1,09 to 1,18; grapes go up 5,3% from USD 1,41 to 1,48 and the average FOB price exported from apples goes up 6,4% from USD 0,79 to 0,84 per kilo.

On the other hand, the price of cherries is the only one that drops (9%), going from USD 4,86 to 4,43 per kilo FOB exported. However, all prices increased the 2017 year by incorporating the final IVV.
