Fall Creek adds Robert Reiter to its board of directors to strengthen its global blueberry strategy
Fall Creek Farm & Nursery, a global leader in blueberry genetics and plants, announced the appointment of Robert (Bob) Reiter, Ph.D., to its board of directors as an independent member. Reiter, who most recently served as head of Research and Development at Bayer Crop Science, brings more than three decades of experience in breeding programs, biotechnology, and scaling up innovative agricultural solutions for growers worldwide.
A track record dedicated to agricultural innovation
Kevin Murphy, executive chairman of Fall Creek's board of directors, noted that Reiter's arrival aligns with the company's current phase of global expansion. “It is a privilege to welcome Bob to our board. As Fall Creek continues to expand its international footprint, the depth of his scientific leadership and his track record of delivering innovation to growers around the world will be key to guiding our long-term strategy,” he said, emphasizing that the appointment reinforces the company's commitment to strong governance and the addition of world-class expertise.
For Cort Brazelton, a board member, active shareholder, and strategic advisor at Fall Creek, Reiter's addition comes at a pivotal moment. “Fall Creek is at a very exciting stage in its evolution. As a multi-generational family business, it is committed to the long-term success and well-being of the entire blueberry industry. Bob's experience, knowledge, and passion will help us strengthen our innovation engine and deepen our investments in science, genetics, grower success, and the growth of the blueberry category on our path to becoming the world's favorite fruit,” he commented.
Focus on genetics, quality and value for the producer
As an independent director, Reiter will support Fall Creek in its focus on accelerating applied innovation for growers, strengthening genetic pipelines, and improving the company's ability to meet global expectations for quality, consistency, and reliability in blueberries. In a context of more demanding markets and increased climate pressure, these elements have become central to maintaining sustainable business programs in the Americas, Europe, and other destinations.
“It is an honor to join the Fall Creek board and work alongside leaders deeply committed to advancing blueberry genetics and the success of growers worldwide,” said Reiter. “The company’s strong mission, global perspective, and focus on innovation align closely with my experience in agricultural research and development,” he added, underscoring the category’s potential for continued growth in consumption and value.
Strengthened governance for an expanding industry
Marc de Beer, CEO of Fall Creek, emphasized the impact this addition can have for the company's customers. “Bob has dedicated his career to translating science into concrete solutions for growers. His insights will help us accelerate the development of new varieties, strengthen supply reliability, and continue delivering value to growers and retailers in various markets,” he stated, in line with the role that genetics companies are assuming within the blueberry value chain.
Reiter is an agricultural engineer with a bachelor's degree in horticulture from Penn State University and a master's and doctorate in plant breeding and genetics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His appointment is part of Fall Creek's strategy to continue adding independent experts to its board of directors and to consolidate a corporate governance structure aligned with the company's international expansion and the needs of an increasingly sophisticated global berry industry.
