Signing of an agreement between China and Morocco

The convention on the Belt and Road Joint Implementation Plan between the Kingdom of Morocco and the People's Republic of China was signed this Wednesday during a ceremony organized by videoconference.

It was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, and the Vice President of the Chinese National Commission for Reform and Development (NDRC), Ning Jizhe.

This Convention aims to promote access to Chinese financing provided by the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) for the realization of large-scale projects in Morocco or for the facilitation of trade, the establishment of joint ventures in various fields (industrial parks, energy, including renewable energy).

It is also related to cooperation in Research and Development (technology, energy, agriculture, etc.), technological and technical cooperation, as well as professional training.

The Chinese government undertakes, by virtue of this agreement, to encourage large Chinese companies to establish and / or invest in Moroccan territory (automobile industry, aeronautics, high technology and electronic commerce, agricultural and textile industry ...).

Launched in 2013 by President Xi Jinping, under the name “One Belt, One Road,” the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a set of maritime and rail links between China and the acceding countries.

Its ambition is to promote new opportunities for cooperation between China and the 140 countries that have joined it. It is based on dialogue, partnership, mutual learning and inspiration rather than confrontation and alignment.

Since its launch, Morocco has been the first country in Africa to join the “Belt and Road” initiative.
