Freshuelva celebrates the opening of the Brazilian market to the export of blueberries

Freshuelva has welcomed the positive response of the Government of Brazil to the blueberry management systems proposed through the Spanish Government by the blueberry sector in the province of Huelva, thus the green light is given to the commercialization of the fruit in the American country, thus opening an important market for which Freshuelva has been working for years.

The positive response of the Government of Brazil comes after, last month of November, a delegation of Brazilian inspectors learned about the blueberry production systems in the province of Huelva through a visit to the blueberry farms of the associated companies of Freshuelva Euroberry and Grupo Medina.

The objective of that visit was precisely to verify on the spot the compliance with the requirements established in the export protocols that were being negotiated for the opening of the Brazilian market for the export of these fruits, which has now been clarified.

And it is that in the process of opening new markets in third countries to the export of Spanish fruits and vegetables, the signing of specific protocols is part of it, which includes as a requirement the visit to the farms of the interested Spanish companies in exporting, in order to corroborate compliance with the phytosanitary requirements that will be established in said protocols.

Freshuelva, which through Fepex participated in the organization of that visit, which also had the collaboration of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food of the Junta de Andalucía, has shown its "satisfaction" after passing the final procedure that will allow the commercialization of blueberries with the Brazilian country soon, once the administrative procedures between both countries have been completed.

The Ministry of Agriculture, together with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, is the one who heads the negotiation and signing of export protocols with the corresponding authorities in third countries that Spanish producers want to access, as is the case in Brazil. This work is carried out in coordination with the sector, which defines the products and countries to which it wants to export, within the framework of the Working Group on fruits and vegetables for the opening of new markets.

In addition to opening the Brazilian market, Freshuelva works on the processing of other files that allow the export of blueberries to other countries such as Canada, India or China.

During the Last season, the province of Huelva exported almost 55.000 tons of blueberries, which represented a slight decrease of 2% compared to the fruit exported in the previous season. This sale had a value of almost 317 million euros, which, on the contrary, meant an increase in the value of this berry of more than 14% compared to the previous season.
